Hockey Update...

While the American and Canadian women battle it out for Gold tonight, it is tomorrows match ups that are really intriguing. Usa squeaked by the goal tending of Jonas Hiller to beat the Swiss and now will face Finland. The Canadians after their mauling of Russia, will play the Slovaks after their surprise win against the Sweedes!!!!!! If all things go well, the USA vs CANADA rematch will be on Sunday!

Three Cheers for Twitter...

While I have been against Twitter since it made its debut, I may have to think twice. Ozzie Guillen has just decided that he is going to join. If you know ANYTHING about the White Sox manager, it is that ANYTHING and EVERYTHING comes out of his mouth, and he does not even care.

You think Rush or Imus say messed up stuff. I mean this is the guy that called ESPN's Around the Horn Jay Mariotti a Homo, and Alex Rios an over paid candy *ass pussy. O wait, he also called Tigers outfielder Magglio Ordonez a Venezuelan C*nt. I wonder if Twitter is a publicly traded company????

Humpday Tidbits

Going with my top five Monday's I have decided to also implement Wednesday tidbits.

- After releasing LT, the Eagles followed suit by also dumping their franchise leader, Brian Westbrook. BW holds most eagle records, including most yards from scrimmage. It is sad seeing these 30 year old backs dumped like they are Kyle Farnsworth. I hate that the NFL does not have guaranteed contracts, and minus the concussions Brian is still a very serviceable back.

- After seeing the British Rugby player test positive for HGH (yes I said Rugby), Major League Baseball has decided that they will test minor league players for it this season. Get ready for some big names.

- Following suit of MLB, the NFL has also stated they would like to test for HGH. Can't wait to hear the "tainted supplement" or "just getting back from injury" excuses.

- The Oklahoma City SuperSonics (errr Thunder) are now the hottest team in the NBA and Kevin Durant is playing like the league NBA. He has now scored 25 points or more in 29 strait games.

- Canada beat the Germans last night to eliminate them. Canada plays Russia tonight in a match up of Crosby and Alex the Great. Canada has not beaten Russia in the Olympics in 50 years. USA plays the Swiss again, they won the last match up 3-1.

- I am now a Jaguar Season ticket holder.

- Boulder, Colorado was listed as the happiest city to live in.

- Dutch Speed Skater Sven Kramer was disqualified during his Gold medal run because his coach told him to move into the inside lane when he was due for the outside lane. His time was 7.57 seconds of the gold medal winner. Truly a shame and one of the biggest disasters and flogs in sports history. By the way, I know now what the coaches write on those signs.

- Canadian Skater Joannie Rochette nailed it last night in figure skating. The tragic story about this girl is that her mother died shortly after arriving in Vancouver for the Olympics as she collapsed. Thursday is the long program and this poor girl goes for gold. (by the way that is the last time I mention figure skating on this blog).

- Tony Kornheiser has been suspended from PTI for 2 weeks because he made some comments about Hannah Storms wardrobe. Really, her wardrobe?

- U.N narcotics board has now stated that prescription drugs are now abused more than heroin, coke and Ecstasy COMBINED.

- A Jacksonville man has died after being hit with a Golf Cart while searching for his ball. He fell and hit his head. ( I am a sick person for finding this kind of stuff funny).

- Former Blue Jay general manager JP Riccardi has been hired by ESPN to appear on baseball tonight. I guess they like losers. Hey, someone has to replace Steve Phillips.

- Florida beat Tenn last night in college basketball. That should consummate their trip to the tourney. Syracuse also won and had their usual late game scare. Next up for them is a HUGE match up in the DOME vs. Villanova Saturday.

- A maintenance worker at the Baymeadows location of MacDonald's was shot and killed yesterday during a daylight robbery as he attempted to save the store manager. (Sometimes I really hate the world).

- Major League baseball has banned guns in the locker rooms following Gilbert's disaster. This has upset Ryan Franklin.

- Manny continues to be Manny. No one cares anymore Manny, your just another roid head.

- The Google Icon today is pretty much nails.

- The New Facebook setup sucks.

- Airports are going to be implementing a new scanner in 150 airports. It is basically a virtual strip search. I better starting working out again.

- USA is racking up medals in this Olympics, and are going to set a record.

- Mike Comrie is the latest hockey player to get engaged as he recently proposed to girlfriend Hillary Duff. He joins Mike Fisher as Canadians locking up beautiful American women (he got Carrie Underwood). It is either our accents or their missing teeth...

And that's all I have to say about that.

Team Teal

So Tony Boselli, Jaguar great, is starting an initiative to revive the pride and passion of Jag football here in Jax. What this really means is he is single handily doing what the front office can't, sell tickets. So he created Team Teal, and you can check out his blog at www.myteamteal.com. Basically what it is is a group of season ticket holders trying to get more season ticket holders in order to make it into heaven. I think this is a great idea, because Jacksonville without the Jaguars would turn into Syracuse without a AAA baseball team and a good college squad. Ugh.

Season tickets can be had for as cheap as 300 dollars for 10 games. Payment plans are avaible streching out the price for 8 monthes. Lock it up and move those chains, moves those chains. Here is a link to the seating chart. http://www.myteamteal.com/media/2010PricingMap.pdf

And besides, once we get Tebow, Team Teal will be a lock.

Top 5 Upsets in Sports...

While I totally feel like that guy above, sometimes you just got to admit defeat. If that is possible when you totally out play a team and still lose...anyways...top 5 Mondays must go on and here is my list of the top 5 biggest upsets in sports...

5. Canada losses to USA. Olympics 2010. (Or insert Miracle on Ice here, put the pain is still to real for me) First time in forever that the boy in Blue have beaten Canada since they allowed NHL players to play. Then again had it not been for Ryan Miller, none of this would have happened anyways. I bet his parents are Canadian...

4. Appalachian State beats Michigan.2007. Not only was Appalachian state a DAA school, Big Blue was ranked #5 at that time! In addition, this was the first time a non bcs school has EVER beaten a ranked team in the top 25. AND THEY DID IT IN MICHIGAN AT THE BIG HOUSE by blocking a last second field goal...

3. Buster vs. Iron Mike 1990...Forget Cinderella Man. As impressive as James J. Braddock’s win over Max Baer in 1935 was, Braddock was merely a 10-to-1 underdog in that fight, which is nothing compared to the 42-to-1 odds that faced James “Buster” Douglas in his heavyweight title fight against Mike Tyson in 1990. Tyson had been the heavyweight champion of the world for more than two years, and appeared unstoppable. The Douglas fight was supposed to be a tune-up, merely warming “Iron Mike” up for an eventual showdown with Evander Holyfield. Douglas had other plans, however, taking the fight to Tyson early and unlike any opponent the champ had ever faced, dominating the early rounds. Tyson would fire back, knocking Douglas down (but not out) in the eighth. The two continued to battle into the tenth round, when Douglas clocked Mike and became the champ.

2. Giants vs. Pats Superbowl XLII...We all know it by now, the undefeated Pats vs the Wildcard Giants. Eli played out of his mind. Tyree caught a ball of his head, and the Giants pass rush led by Tuck and Strahan were relentless. As they said the next day, 17 and 1 GIANT loss....

1. While most people would say this is the Miracle on Ice, which was a very great win for USA hockey, I don't think it is as much on this list as this one. Boston Red Sox vs. NY Yankees (2004). Not only were the Bombers up 3-0 in the series, they were beating down their cursed rivals. At Fenway, the best closer in the history of the game melted down TWICE in games 4 and 5 to bring the Series back to New York. The Idiots were not fazed though and a win in game 6 brought on the critical game 7. From here the Sox pounded Kevin Brown and Javy Vasquez to gain an early lead and silence the ghosts of the Babe....While coming back from a 3-0 deficit had only ever been done by my Maple Leafs before, vs the best closer ever and your heated rivals puts the 2004 World Series Champs at the top of my list....

Because Santana Said So....

Phew last night was a close one; between Team Canada needing a shoot out to beat Jonas Hiller, I mean the Swiss, and Syracuse almost blowing a lead to Georgetown, I would like to thank both of them for taking 10 combined years of my life away. Thank God for the Canadians on the Cuse, Rautkins and Joseph because without them my Orange would have lost twice in a row. And I now have a man crush on Marty Brodeur and Sid the Kid.

But this is not what this post is about. This post is about Johan Santana and his self proclaimed proclamation (can I say that) that he is in fact the best pitcher in the NL EAST. Big words bob. See there just happens to be some pretty good arms in the NL EAST this year. Roy Halladay is clearly better. Josh Johnson may be better. Santana, your a good pitcher and your coming off an injury, but your Mets are terrible and awful to watch. Zip your lip.

Spring is almost near by the way...
